Before you publish

The fields marked [TO COMPLETE] below require your real company/publisher information and cannot be filled in automatically. Replace them, then have the final text reviewed by a qualified lawyer for your jurisdiction before this page goes live.

This Privacy Policy explains how [TO COMPLETE — Company / Publisher legal name] ("we", "us", "ThisRig") collects, uses and protects your personal data when you visit thisrig.com (the "Site"). We are committed to processing your data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable data protection laws.

Data controller

The data controller responsible for your personal data is:

  • [TO COMPLETE — Company / Publisher legal name]
  • [TO COMPLETE — registered postal address]
  • Email: contact@thisrig.com

Data we collect

We collect the following categories of data. This section reflects how the Site is actually built: a consent banner gates every non-essential tag behind Google Consent Mode v2, and tags themselves (analytics, advertising) are deployed through Google Tag Manager (GTM) rather than hard-coded on the Site.

  • Cookie/consent preference: your Accept/Decline choice from our consent banner, stored in your browser's local storage under the key rp-consent (not as an HTTP cookie). This is strictly necessary and is not itself subject to consent.
  • Usage and analytics data: where you have given consent, pages viewed, time spent, referring pages, approximate location (country/region), device type, browser and operating system — collected through analytics tags loaded via Google Tag Manager (e.g. Google Analytics, if and when configured).
  • Advertising identifiers and cookies: where you have given consent, identifiers set by Google AdSense/Google Ads and other advertising tags loaded via Google Tag Manager, used to serve and measure ads and — where you consent — personalise them.
  • Affiliate and CPI (cost-per-install) tracking: some outbound links on the Site are affiliate or CPI links (see our Legal Notice). Following one of these links takes you to a third-party site (a game publisher, app store or affiliate network), which may set its own cookies or use its own tracking parameters to attribute the referral to ThisRig; the Site does not itself set a first-party affiliate-tracking cookie before you click such a link.
  • Technical data: IP address and standard request/log data generated automatically by your browser and processed by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, Inc., for security, performance and abuse-prevention purposes.
  • Data you provide directly: for example, if you contact us by email, the content of your message and your contact details.

Purposes of processing

  • Operating, securing and maintaining the Site (including basic bot/abuse mitigation via Cloudflare);
  • Remembering your cookie consent choice so we do not ask again on every visit;
  • Measuring audience and understanding how the Site is used (analytics, only with consent);
  • Displaying advertising and measuring its performance (only with consent);
  • Personalising advertising (only with your consent);
  • Attributing traffic referred to our affiliate and CPI partners, so that they can pay us a commission for installs or purchases originating from the Site;
  • Responding to your requests and messages.

Legal bases

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for non-essential cookies/tags, audience measurement, and advertising (including personalised advertising). Until you give consent, Google Consent Mode v2 keeps ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization set to "denied" by default. You may withdraw consent at any time — see our Cookie Policy.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): for keeping the Site secure, preventing abuse, storing your consent preference itself, and basic operation. You may object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps / legal obligation where applicable, for example when you contact us directly.

Third parties and recipients

We share data with the following categories of service providers and partners, who process it on our behalf or as independent controllers:

  • Google (Tag Manager, AdSense/Ads, and any analytics tag deployed through Tag Manager): to serve, cap, measure and (with consent) personalise advertising, and to measure audience. See Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses data.
  • Hosting and infrastructure: Cloudflare, Inc., which serves the Site and processes technical/security data as our processor.
  • Affiliate and CPI networks / advertisers: the specific partners linked to from an article are identified in or around the relevant link; each is responsible for its own processing once you leave the Site.

We do not sell your personal data.

International data transfers

Some of our providers (notably Google and Cloudflare) may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (where the recipient is certified), or other applicable adequacy frameworks.

Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above:

  • Consent preference (rp-consent): stored in your browser's local storage until you change your choice or clear your browser's site data for thisrig.com — local storage does not expire automatically.
  • Analytics data: subject to the retention window of the analytics tag configured in Google Tag Manager (Google Analytics's own default is 14 months, where used).
  • Advertising cookie data: for the lifetime of the relevant cookie (see our Cookie Policy for durations).
  • Email correspondence: [TO COMPLETE — e.g. up to 3 years] after the last contact.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten");
  • Restrict or object to processing, including processing based on legitimate interest and direct marketing;
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format;
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal — see the "Reset my cookie choice" option on our Cookie Policy page.

How to exercise your rights

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@thisrig.com. Under GDPR, a Data Protection Officer is only mandatory for certain organisations (e.g. large-scale systematic monitoring); if one has been appointed, they can be reached at [TO COMPLETE — DPO email, if applicable]. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will reply within the timeframe required by law (generally one month).

Complaints

If you believe your data protection rights have been infringed, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU/EEA Member State of your residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement. A full list of EU data protection authorities is available from the European Data Protection Board.

Children's privacy

The Site is a general-audience gaming publication and is not specifically directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the age at which local law requires parental consent for information-society services (16 in the EU by default, or as low as 13 depending on the Member State). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Automated decision-making

We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Cookies

Detailed information about the cookies and similar technologies we use, and how to manage or withdraw your consent, is available in our Cookie Policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
