Enlisted — Steam (store.steampowered.com)

Enlisted isn't a hero-based gacha, so this ranking looks at squad types and nation starting kits instead of named characters. We weighted combat effectiveness (damage and elimination speed), versatility across map types, and survivability under fire — the same criteria that separate a squad you keep using at higher Battle Ratings from one you bench after the first campaign.

S-Tier

  • Assaulter Squads — the top pick for clearing objectives and dominating close-quarters fights; armed with SMGs and explosives that eliminate enemies fast, especially strong in urban maps and indoor point capture.
  • Premium anti-tank squads (e.g., StuG III G – Berlin) — a 75mm gun that penetrates most enemy armor at respectable range while staying mobile enough to flank, giving infantry-focused teams real anti-tank support without a dedicated tank slot.

A-Tier

  • Rifle Squads with designated marksman support — the backbone of most BR 1-2 lineups; flexible enough to hold a line or push depending on how you equip them.
  • USSR and Germany starting nations — consistently rated among the strongest starter nations for weapon and vehicle access at low Battle Ratings, giving new players a smoother climb.
  • Light machine-gun squads — excellent for holding capture points and suppressing pushes, a strong complement to Assaulter Squads rather than a replacement for them.

B-Tier

  • USA and Japan starting nations — solid but generally considered a notch behind USSR and Germany in early BR weapon and vehicle strength, requiring more grinding to catch up.
  • Standard tank squads without upgrades — useful for map control, but outclassed by upgraded or premium tank squads once opponents start bringing better armor.

C-Tier

  • Base engineer squads used purely offensively — great for fortifications and repairs, a poor choice if used as your primary combat squad.
  • Unupgraded starter squads at higher Battle Ratings — fine at BR 1, increasingly outgunned as you move up and opponents field better weapons and vehicles.

The takeaway

Assaulter Squads and a solid anti-tank option cover most of what you need at BR 1-2 — build your loadout around those two roles before chasing premium purchases. If you're picking a starting nation, USSR and Germany give the smoothest early climb, but every nation becomes viable once you've unlocked and upgraded its full tech tree.
