Once Human's builds live or die on the weapon-Deviant pairing, not the weapon alone — a top-tier gun without the Deviant that feeds its damage type underperforms a mid-tier gun with perfect synergy. We ranked by current build-meta strength: damage output, status-effect uptime, and how well a combo holds up in both PvE clears and PvP fights.
S-Tier
- SOCR — The Last Valor — the dominant Shrapnel-build weapon in the current meta; a shrapnel powerhouse that anchors most top PvE clear builds.
- AWS.338 — Bullseye — a single-target sniper built for weakspot builds, consistently one of the highest per-hit damage options available.
- Lonewolf's Whisper (Deviant) — arguably the best offensive Deviant in the game; hits enemies rapidly, pulls aggro away from the player, and boosts weapon damage on top of that. Anchors almost every serious offensive build.
A-Tier
- MPS7 — Outer Space — a Power Surge SMG that trails just behind the top two weapons, strong for sustained-fire, close-range builds.
- ACS12 — Pyroclasm — a burn shotgun that excels in Blaze-focused builds, especially paired with the right Deviant for burn uptime.
- Butterfly's Emissary (Deviant) — marks weak spots for weakspot builds, making it the natural partner for sniper-focused loadouts like the AWS.338.
- Invincible Sun (Deviant) — applies Burn effectively, the go-to pairing for Blaze-build weapons like the Pyroclasm.
B-Tier
- Snowsprite (Deviant) — feeds Frost Vortex builds well, but Frost as an archetype is narrower than Shrapnel or Blaze in current PvE content.
- Mid-tier weapons without a dedicated Deviant synergy — perform fine on stats alone, but fall behind combos that stack a matching status effect.
C-Tier
- Festering Gel (Deviant) — a common, easy-to-find Deviant that heals and boosts HP, Sanity, and fortification; genuinely useful early and never fully outgrown, but purely defensive with no offensive scaling.
- Early-game weapons past the first territory push — fine for initial survival, replaced quickly once crafting and Deviant options open up.
The takeaway
Pick your damage type first — Shrapnel, weakspot, or Blaze — then choose both weapon and Deviant to match, rather than grabbing S-tier gear piecemeal. Shrapnel via the SOCR remains the strongest overall PvE approach, while Unstable Bomber builds still lead the PvP meta if territory control is your priority.
