Arknights: Endfield is not Arknights with a fresh coat of 3D paint — it's a genuinely different animal. Hypergryph swapped the tower-defense grid for a hybrid of action-RPG combat and factory-sim base management, set on the frozen, ore-rich moon of Talos-II. You play the Endministrator of Endfield Industries, and your job is split evenly between clearing combat zones with a squad of Operators and running an automated production chain back at base. That split is exactly where new players waste the most time, so here's how to get through your first week without it.
Understand the Two Loops Before You Commit Resources
Endfield runs on two parallel systems that feed each other, and ignoring either one stalls the other.
- Combat loop: you field a squad of Operators, each with an elemental affinity and a role (Guard, Specialist, Caster, and so on), to clear story stages and resource nodes. This is where you unlock new areas and farm the raw materials your base needs.
- Base loop: back at your industrial hub, you assign Operators to production lines — mining, refining, crafting — where their stats and traits directly affect output speed and quality. A great combat Operator can be a mediocre factory worker, and vice versa.
The mistake most new players make is optimizing purely for combat and treating the base as an afterthought. Don't. Production output gates your ability to upgrade gear and facilities, which in turn gates your combat power. Check every new Operator's base traits the moment you pull them, not just their skill kit.
Squad Building: Don't Spread Thin Early
With 23 characters available at launch across three banner phases, it's tempting to pull broadly and build a Operator for every occasion. Resist that early on.
- Build two functional squads, not six half-finished ones. Endfield's elemental and role system rewards squads with clear synergy (a tank to hold aggro, a burst damage dealer, a support that buffs or heals) far more than it rewards raw character count.
- Prioritize your first 6-star pull's investment. Whichever limited unit you land on your first banner, commit fully — level, gear, and skill materials — rather than splitting resources across two half-built 6-stars.
- Farm elemental-matchup stages deliberately. Some story and side content is built around specific elemental weaknesses; having at least one strong option per element saves you from getting walled later.
Base Layout: Plan for Throughput, Not Just Coverage
The factory-sim half of Endfield punishes sloppy layouts. Early on, it's easy to place buildings wherever there's room and call it done — but bottlenecked supply chains will quietly cap your production for hours before you notice.
- Trace your resource chain from raw material to finished product before placing buildings. A refinery placed too far from its ore source wastes transport capacity that could be feeding a second line.
- Match Operators to base roles based on their traits, not their combat tier. A support-focused Operator who's mediocre in combat might have an excellent production trait that meaningfully speeds up a bottleneck facility.
- Upgrade transport and storage before you scale up production buildings. Adding a second refinery does nothing if your logistics network can't move the extra output.
What To Do First
- Clear enough of the early story to unlock your second production zone — this roughly doubles your resource throughput ceiling.
- Build one focused combat squad around your best 6-star and commit fully to its gear and skill upgrades.
- Audit every Operator's base trait, not just their combat kit, before deciding who works the factory floor.
- Save your first batch of premium currency for the second banner phase if your first pull didn't land — Endfield's pity system carries over within a phase, so half-committed pulls are the biggest early resource sink.
Endfield's dual-loop structure is its biggest strength and its biggest early trap. Treat base efficiency as seriously as squad power from day one, and the grind opens up fast — version 1.5 already added new zones like Snowy Forest and Suiming, so there's no shortage of places to put that efficiency to work.
